New World Notes - A World Without Cheap Oil: Changes We Need to Make
This week on New World Notes: radio program #266, April 9, 2013, from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m., host Kenneth Dowst looks at life after cheap oil.
In this classic speech, urbanist James Howard Kunstler explores some of the changes America will have to make to deal with a world of less oil and much more expensive oil.
All these changes will be difficult--but some sound better than what we have now. Pasenger rail lines, Main Street stores, and no more Wal-Mart? Sounds OK so far.
Conflict with China over who gets to buy Canada's oil? Possibly not so good.
Kunstler gave this talk in March 2007--as the housing bubble was bursting but before the collapse of the financial system (which, in passing, he predicts). Six years later, his analysis may seems even more cogent and more important than it did at the time.

New World Notes is produced under the auspices (Latin for "long-suffering sighs") of WWUH-FM, a community service of the University of Hartford.
