Tuesday Evening Classics - Ira Braus
On February 5, Tuesday Evening Classics from 6-7 p.m., host David Schonfeld will have as his guest in the studio Professor Ira Braus of the Hartt School of Music.
Ira, a frequent guest on the program, will tell us about his recent experience as a visiting scholar at McGill University in Montreal, where he was attached to the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music and Media Technology.
Ira worked there with Stephen McAdams, a cognitive scientist interested in music, on how timbre affects the perception of meter, as notated. He focused on works by Debussy, Schumann, and Brahms, among others.
David will be playing numerous recorded examples with commentary by Ira.
From 4-6 and from 7-8, David will play selections as listed in the program guide:
A 20th-century clarinet quintet, a set of Scarlatti keyboard sonatas, a piano trio, a 20th-century violin concerto; music recently performed--and/or soon to be performed--locally.
