New World Notes - War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning
This week on New World Notes: radio program #295, October 29, 2013, from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m., prophet and former war correspondent, Chris Hedges, reflects on the psychologically destructive--yet addicting--nature of war.
Hedges focuses not on the experiences not of rulers and generals but of the people on the ground--civilians and enlisted soldiers and war correspondents too. This talk is based on his own experiences and based on his book, War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning (2002).
Plus some additional reflections by Hedges on PTSD among soldiers and veterans who fought in World War Two. The problem was serious and widespread--but little acknowledged, as it did not fit in with the national mythic narrative of heroic citizen-soldiers fighting "the Good War."
