Hartford Jazz Society - Eddie Henderson
Eddie Henderson is one of today’s top and most original jazz trumpet players. Eddie Henderson was born in New York City on October 26, 1940. Henderson first got worldwide recognition for his jazz trumpet playing from the popular recordings he made with Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi group during the early seventies. Since Hancock, Henderson has worked extensively with notables such as Pharoah Sanders, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Max Roach, Billy Harper, Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson and The Cookers. Henderson has been on the faculty of The Juilliard School of music since 2007, and the Oberlin College jazz department since 2014. His discography consists of over twenty albums as a leader on influential record labels including Capricorn, Blue Note, Capitol, Columbia, SteepleChase, Sirocco, Kind of Blue, Furthermore and Smoke Sessions, as well as countless recordings as a sideman.
