Michael Wininger is Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, at the University of Hartford.
In this first segment, Michael talks about his education and training; the comprehensive scope of rehabilitation science; the difference between prosthetics and orthotics; Hartford's reputation in clinician training; the role of the clinician in P&O; careers for clinicians; the history of P&O; diabetes and amputation; historical and current materials used for P&O; off-the-shelf vs. custom-made products; evaluating and comparing device options; relationships with Hartford's Engineering department; Hartford's collaboration with Limbs International and its program in Peru; the challenge of new injuries resulting from modern warfare; the brain's role in the origination of movement; the critical nature of lower-limb prostheses.
