Out Here & Beyond - Marty Ehrlich
Multi-instrumentalist Marty Ehrlich has become one of the most highly regarded jazz musicians of his generation. His latest recording, A Trumpet in the Morning, is one of his most ambitious projects to date, featuring a large ensemble performing six Ehrlich compositions, including the title track, a 23-minute epic inspired by an Arthur Brown poem.
Ehrlich will speak with Chuck Obuchowski about this recording on Tuesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. during Tuesday Morning Jazz, Out Here & Beyond. Listeners will also have an opportunity to hear several pieces from the album.
The Marty Ehrlich Large Ensemble will perform A Trumpet in the Morning on Thursday, April 17, 8:30 p.m. at the UMass Fine Arts Center's Bezanson Recital Hall in Amherst, MA. Members of the all-star band include saxophonists J.D. Parran, Jason Robinson, and Adam Kolker; trombonist Ray Anderson; trumpeter Eddie Allen; pianist James Weidman; and drummer Matt Wilson. The concert marks the conclusion of the 25th anniversary season of the Magic Triangle Jazz Series, produced by WMUA radio at UMass.
