Ashley "Woody" Doane is Associate Dean of Hillyer College; Chair, Department of Social Sciences; and Professor of Sociology.

In the first segment, Program #25, Woody talked about his background; Social Sciences at the University of Hartford; service learning; the role of Assistant Dean; the make-up of Hillyer College; his research interests in the effects of racism on the majority race and in racial discourse in America; the rise of ethnic consciousness among Anglo-Americans; the invisible racism in "whiteness"; white privilege; acknowledging racism in order to move beyond race; individual vs. institutional racism; and the illusion of the colorblind society.

In today's segment, Woody talks about the concept of whiteness; New England's historic complicity in the Southern slave system; non-racial discrimination; racism as a means of dehumanizing the "other" and a stand-in for class; racial identification over class identification; reconstruction and Jim Crow; invisible "affirmative action" for whites; and how we might actually move to overcome racism.
