Ashley "Woody" Doane is Associate Dean of Hillyer College; Chair, Department of Social Sciences; and Professor of Sociology.
In this first segment, Woody talks about his background; Social Sciences at the University of Hartford; service learning; the role of Assistant Dean; the make-up of Hillyer College; his research interests in the effects of racism on the majority race and in racial discourse in America; the rise of ethnic consciousness among Anglo-Americans; the invisible racism in "whiteness"; white privilege; acknowledging racism in order to move beyond race; individual vs. institutional racism; and the illusion of the colorblind society.
