Beyond the Classroom - Humphrey Tonkin

In Program #1, David talks to Humphrey Tonkin.
Dr. Tonkin is University Professor of the Humanities and President Emeritus at the University of Hartford. He joined the University in January 1989 and served as President for almost ten years, returning to teaching and research in June 1998. He is a world authority on the international language of Esperanto and linguistics, as well as an expert on Shakespeare.
Dr. Tonkin talks to David about the pleasures and pitfalls of being an ex-university president. He discusses his current academic interest in sociolinguistics and talks about the history and development of Esperanto. Dr. Tonkin also itemizes some of his accomplishments as university president, including the President's College.
