Summertime Band Concert #3 – The Real and Unreal Brassed Off!
The 23rd season of Summertime Band Concerts continues on Drake’s Village Brass Band, the final part of A Musical Odyssey, Classical Music for Monday Evenings. Join Drake the Bandmaster on Monday August 29th from 6:30 till 8:00 PM, as he features recordings of just two bands but with a real twist. First the Grimethorpe Colliery Band featured in the full length film Brassed Off: a fictional account of the “Grimley” Colliery Band’s troubles as their “pit” (colliery) is closed down.
Second is the Desford Colliery Band featured in a British TV reality show about themselves called, The Real Brassed Off: Fact and Fiction, Art Imitates Life Imitates Art. We will hear selections from both soundtracks and lots of other great music.
