Musical Memory: Sounds of the Slavic Courts

Musical Memory: Sounds of the Slavic Courts

In Musical Memory: Sounds of the Slavic Courts, the American Baroque Singers perform works of the 17th and 18th century Slavic culture, ranging from the sacred to secular gems of the choral repertoire. The program features a variety of works for unaccompanied choir, including monophonic chant, part-songs, motets, anthems, and sacred concertos from the Slavic Baroque period, featuring music by Bortniansky, Vedel, Galuppi, Slavinetsky, Diletsky, and more!

Through the music, the program tells a story of how the soundscapes of this period was built on the foundation and memory of ancient Slavic chant, creating repertoire that is powerful, sublime, and transcendent. The American Baroque Singers, led by Artistic Director Mark Bailey, performs with the exuberance and artistry of the period, through the instruments and vocal styles of the time. Soloists include soprano Kathryn Aaron, mezzo soprano, Carolina Kipnis, tenor Robert Strebendt, and bass Andy Betz.
