Thursday Evening Classics - Jewish Composers
Join fill-in host David Schonfeld on September 25, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. for a special edition of Thursday Evening Classics. The program, coinciding with the Jewish New Year, will recognize the large and underappreciated contribution made by Jewish composers to classical music.
We are all familiar with Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, and Irving Berlin.
On this program, David will sample works by some Jewish composers, much recognized in their own time, whose works are less often heard in ours. Among the composers represented (time permitting) will be:
Salomone Rossi, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Jacques Offenbach, Salomone Jadassohn, Ignaz Brüll, Moritz Moszkowski, Hans Gál, Darius Milhaud, Erwin Schulhoff, Pawel Haas, Moyshe Weinberg, Lazar Weiner, Yehudi Wyner, and Paul Schoenfield.
