THE CULTURE DOGS PRESENT THE BEST FILMS OF 2007!
As another year passes, it's hard to believe that we've been doing this here C-Dogs thing for almost six of 'em! I have no resolutions per se, but just once it would be nice to catch up to (or surpass) Kevin in total films seen per year. Once again I'm clocking in at about half of his official roster, but I'll take pleasure in knowing that a ton of those were probably pretty bad! There were plenty of cinema trends in 2007 (Threequels, anyone?), but what I enjoyed was the surge of great trash cinema accompanied by a triple threat of hilarious Judd Apatow comedies. For once, 'important' films just didn't feel as important when there was stuff like Grindhouse out there. I'm sure this will turn out to be a fluke, and 2008 will be populated by nothing but dour Merchant Ivory films - but here's hoping the new year will be half as much fun as the last. And one last thing about 2007 fads - I have officially declared it illegal to use the descriptive phrase 'torture porn' again, so don't even think about it when the next batch of grisly horror films comes out. But don't worry - with The Dark Knight's release around the corner, feel free to borrow the term 'vigilante porn' for that one! And before you minutiaholics out there start gripin', both Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men opened wide (i.e. Hartford) in January of 2007. Now scope out our lists and see if you either agree or think we're plum loco! - Sam
