Metropolis (Germany, 1927, silent)
Fritz Lang and Thea Von Harbou’s silent Sci-Fi classic, in
it’s most complete restoration now available The original
is likely lost forever, but this is still essential viewing.
Sat Nov 2nd at Wadsworth Atheneum
Parts 7 and 8 of the late great Krzysztof Kieslowski’s ten-
part The Decalogue (1988), a series of ten stand alone stories set
in a Warsaw apartment block, each story based on one of the Ten
Commandments. Concludes later this month.
FANTASTIKA: Fantasy Films of Aleksandr Ptushko
concludes Sat Nov 2nd and Sun Nov 3rd at Real Art Ways with
Sadko (Soviet Russian, 1952)
You may be familiar with this Ptushko film from its re-edited, dubbed
American version, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad. Real Art Ways will
have it, however, in its restored original form and in a new 35mm
print. Sadko is a minstrel who sets out to find the Bluebird of
Happiness, which takes him to far away, and mysterious lands where
he encounters many and varied mythical wonders.

Cinema Paradiso (Italy, France, 1989 (Director’s cut,
The Italian sensation from 1989, in a new version with much additional
footage, returns to Trinity. A director returns to the old movie
theater of his youth.
