Thanks to all of you, "Marathon,"
our late winter fund raiser, was a great success!
Celtic Airs listeners were exceptionally supportive and generous. Two
hundred and fifteen of you called to pledge during the three hour show, contributing an
amazing total of $9,277.00! With an additional 20 pledges obtained at the Dervish concerts
on March 11 and 12, the total contributed by Celtic music lovers exceeded $10,000.
Scotlands Battlefield Band will perform in the Wilde Auditorium
on May 2, 1999, the twenty-fifth in our Celtic Concert Series, proceeds of which support
the operations of WWUH radio. The show sold out on March 2, 1999, two months in advance,
with little or no promotion. Youd better add your name to our concert mailing list
(see coupon) if you want to have a chance to get tickets to upcoming shows. Theyre
obviously in great demand, and seating is limited.
The
tentative concert line-up for the remainder of 1999 includes the following:
June: Maire Ni Chathasaigh (harp and vocals) and Chris Newman (guitar)
July: Solas
September: Lunasa and Dougie MacLean
October: Christy OLeary Band
November: Anam
As I write this, no specific dates are settled and until they are, no
tickets can be sold. Once dates are finalized, those on the concert mailing list will be
notified and tickets will go on sale through the University of Hartford box office,
768-4228 or 1-800-274-8587.
In closing, thanks again to all of you who accepted the responsibility
to keep your radio station and your favorite program on the air by making a
pledge during Marathon 1999. And a special thanks to the listeners who helped answer the
phones during Celtic Airs - you know who you are!
