"Midnight of the Century"
Compiled by Moondog

I asked our staff to name their choices for the top five most influential artists of the 20th century. Just over sixty members of the staff responded to the survey. On New Year’s Eve I broadcast music by all these artists; here is the list.

1. The Beatles
2. Elvis Presley
3. Duke Ellington
4. Miles Davis
5. Louis Armstrong
6. Frank Zappa
7. Frank Sinatra
8. Igor Stravinsky
9. Muddy Waters
10. Jimi Hendrix
11. Robert Johnson
12. Brian Eno
13. Dmitri Shostakovich
14. Bob Dylan
15. Enrico Caruso
16. James Brown
17. Leonard Bernstein
18. Michael Jackson
19. Charlie Parker
20. Billie Holiday
21. Stevie Wonder
22. John Coltrane
23. Dave Brubeck
24. Chuck Berry
25. Bill Monroe

An interesting cross-section of artists and musical styles that made the 20th century great, what do you think??? Feel free to call or write with your ideas. I am on the air at midnight on Friday’s and welcome your comments.
